Teen Advocacy Council (TAC) is Girls Inc. of Long Island’s girl-led advocacy and leadership program for high school girls in grades 9–12.
TAC gives participants the opportunity to turn their ideas and passions into action. Together, members identify an issue that matters to them and lead a collaborative advocacy project designed to create meaningful change. Along the way, girls engage with guest speakers and community leaders, explore civics and government, strengthen their media literacy, and build the skills and confidence to become informed, engaged citizens.
As a TAC Member, You Will:
- Advocate for issues that matter to you and build the skills to make your voice heard.
- Shape and carry out a group advocacy project focused on an issue selected by TAC members.
- Strengthen your leadership voice and develop the confidence and skills to advocate for yourself and others.
- Explore civics, government, advocacy, and media literacy through fun, interactive experiences.
- Connect with government leaders and community experts, including local and state legislators and their staff.
- Participate in workshops and leadership experiences led by Girls Inc. of Long Island staff and partners.
- Receive invitations to Girls Inc. events, special opportunities, and leadership experiences.
- Access Girls Inc. scholarship opportunities ranging from $1,000 to $25,000.
- Connect with the national Girls Inc. network and access network-wide leadership opportunities.
- Receive a $175 stipend upon successful completion of the program, based on meeting attendance and documented participation in the group’s advocacy project.
Program Commitment
- Participants attend 15 in-person meetings October 2026- June 2027, and complete additional responsibilities outside of meetings based on their individual role in the group’s advocacy project.
- This is not a drop-in program. Active participation, consistent attendance, and meaningful engagement in the advocacy project are expected throughout the program.
- As the project develops, members will work together to identify roles and responsibilities based on the needs of the advocacy project and each participant’s individual strengths.

Registration is open for the 2026–2027 Teen Advocacy Council. Space is limited to 15 participants, and enrollment will close once the cohort is full.
*The $175 stipend will be distributed following the conclusion of programming and is contingent upon meeting attendance and documented individual participation in the group’s advocacy project.
Cancellation & Refund Policy
TAC registration fees are non-refundable. Once a participant is registered, no refunds will be issued for cancellations or changes in attendance. If the participant cannot attend, the registration fee retained by Girls Inc of Long Island will be considered a charitable donation, as no TAC services were provided.
