HAPPY NEW YEAR FROM GIRLS INCORPORATED® OF LONG ISLAND!

We hope you and yours had a very happy holiday season! At this time, we would like to thank you for supporting Girls Incorporated® of Long Island in 2008 and look forward to working with you again in 2009.

The support you lend to Girls Inc.® of Long Island is not counted in dollars and cents but in the "spirit of community." However, your donation of dollars makes sense and will allow our organization to continue to grow in 2009; inspiring all girls to be strong, smart, and bold.

OUR WORKSHOPS

MONEY TALKS® WORKSHOPS
This year we are launching our newest program: a family financial literacy workshop called Money Talks, which we are offering to Long Island communities across Nassau and Suffolk Counties. These workshops focus on learning about basic financial concepts in a fun and interesting way, providing an educational experience that is particularly relevant for girls who already have or will soon have their own money to manage.

At this time, we are seeking community-based partners in Nassau and Suffolk to host Money Talks® workshops. These fun and educational half-day family events are geared toward middle school age girls and younger teenagers who attend along with a parent or guardian. We would be thrilled to bring this family workshop to your community by offering it at libraries, schools, community centers, churches and temples.

GIRLS INC. FRIENDLY PEERSUASION® PROGRAM
For the second year, we will be facilitating our Girls Inc. Friendly PEERsuasion® program at Central Islip High School, in partnership with the Urban League of Long Island. This half-year program helps build girls’ skills for resisting pressure to use harmful substances such as alcohol, tobacco, household chemicals, and other drugs, and encourages them to be mentors and role models for younger girls.

SPONSORSHIP PROGRAM

For 2009, we are also launching our newest donor program, the Girls Inc.® of Long Island Sponsorship Program.  The phrase, “It takes a village,” has been used to describe many endeavors, and it is certainly apt in the case of Girls Inc.® of Long Island. It will take a widespread “village” to accomplish our mission. Schools and community organizations can act as program partners, providing meeting sites and staff and administrative support to deliver Girls Incorporated® programming. Individuals can volunteer to serve on committees or to act as program aides. Businesses can offer financial or in-kind contributions. Each partner helps us to grow in different ways, but everyone benefits through helping to provide programs that will inspire Long Island’s girls to be strong, smart and bold.

Girls Inc.®of Long Island is currently in the midst of a major fund drive. We have received financial support through fundraisers, charitable foundations, from county legislators, a large Community Action grant from the American Association of University Women, and several small grants. But we can’t fulfill our mission without the financial support of individual donors who share our vision and our mission.

Whether you can afford to give five dollars or five-thousand dollars or more, we need your support to make our vision a reality. Think of it as the best investment you will ever make—an investment in nurturing the full potential of girls on Long Island, in a future filled with promise for all girls, especially those who might otherwise be limited by birth and circumstances. Think of it as ensuring that girls on Long Island will know they are valued and will value themselves as well. And think of it as ensuring all of our futures, because the girl who attends a Girls Inc.® of Long Island program today will be a Long Island leader tomorrow. Please review the sponsorship levels offered by Girls Inc.® of Long Island. All sponsor subscriptions are annual, lasting one year from the date of your initial sign-up. Girls Inc.® of Long Island will remind you electronically when it's time to renew in the coming year.

Your sponsorship dollars will be applied to support the organization’s direct and indirect programming expenses, thereby helping to sustain the organization this year
