Thank you for your interest in Girls Incorporated® of Long Island!

As we develop our local programming to expand our reach, we are looking for venues and volunteers to join us in different capacities:

The mission of Girls Incorporated® of Long Island is to provide school- and community-based programming that serves the unique needs of girls aged 6-18 living in Nassau and Suffolk Counties. Through community outreach partnerships, the organization helps girls to achieve their full human potential. Girls Inc. of Long Island is dedicated to the advocacy of gender equity for all girls in all areas of their lives.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR TODAY

We are currently launching our newest program, the Money Talks® Family Financial Literacy Workshop, throughout Long Island communities and would be thrilled to facilitate this workshop at your library, school, and community center (which ever is applicable).

At this time, we are seeking community-based partners in Nassau and Suffolk to host our Financial Literacy workshops. These are one-day events targeting middle school age girls and teenagers and their parents or guardians.

Girls Incorporated® of Long Island Financial Literacy Program

Program Content:
Title of Program: Money Talks Family Financial Literacy Workshop
Type of Program: Financial Literacy Program for middle school age girls in the sixth, seventh and eight grades and/or their parents/guardians.

Workshop Description: The ability to use basic economic concepts to make decisions about saving, sharing, and making money, or economic literacy, is a skill. Like reading and writing, a working knowledge of basic money concepts is essential for future success. Whether a girl is from a low-income or wealthy home, lives in a rural or urban community, at some point in her life she is likely to be responsible for her own financial well being.

In our workshop girls are introduced to basic financial concepts, including money management and investment. Girls look at how money affects us locally and globally and fosters the development of skills needed to be financially self-sufficient. We address issues such as talking media messages about finances; family values about money; and smart financial decision-making for girls.

Our workshop is a single day event that caters to both the girls and their parents/guardians in separate and joint sessions. Girls Incorporated® of Long Island will be responsible for all of the materials and costs for the program, including a pizza lunch for participants. All that the host organization has to do is promote the event to its community base to help us register about 8-10 girls and 8-10 companion adults. We will also promote the event on our Web site (www.girlsincli.org) and through press releases.

Length of Program: Three to four hours

Preferred Date(s) and times: March 7, 14 April 11, 25 from 10 A.M. – 2 P.M.

Target Audience: Middle school age girls in the sixth, seventh and eighth grades and one guardian.
